If your iPhone still uses a lot of data, you can take a look at the data usage of particular apps in Settings -> Cellular. This will allow you to take a look at which apps are using the most data on your iPhone and can help you determine whether or not a specific app is responsible for most of the data drain.

Why Should I Look For Problem Apps?

If an app crashes, it may be stuck trying to send and receive data for a prolonged period of time. Usually, closing out of the app will solve this problem.

However, if this problem persists, there may be a software bug or issue within the app itself. If that's the case, you may want to delete the app entirely and look for an alternative.

How Do I Look For Problem Apps?

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Cellular.
  3. Scroll down to the Cellular Data submenu, where you'll see a list of your apps and how much data they've used over the Current Period.
  4. Look for apps that are using multiple GB of data.
  5. If one of your apps is using lots and lots of gigabytes, it's probably the reason why your iPhone uses too much data.

Pro Tips

  • KB stands for kilobytes. There are 1000 of these in 1 megabyte, so KB are very small.
  • MB stands for megabytes. There are 1000 MB in 1 gigabyte.  If an app is only using a small amount of MB, then there probably isn't an issue with the app.
  • GB stands for gigabytes. Most wireless carriers measure data plans in GB.
  • If you're not sure whether or not an app is using way too much data, you can tap Reset Statistics. Then, check back in a few days to see which apps are using the most data.
